Preparing for your appointment

A Little Preparation Changes How The Whole Session Feels

Simple steps before your appointment can help support comfort, efficiency, and a smoother treatment experience.

  • Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

Hydration is one of the most important ways you can prepare for your appointment. Deeply hydrated skin makes the treatment significantly more comfortable, helps the hairs release effortlessly, and allows your skin to recover beautifully. Proper hydration speeds up the process—allowing us to clear more hair in less time, ultimately saving you both time and money!

    • How to Hydrate: Try to drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment rather than waiting until the last minute. Aim for approximately 64–80 ounces of water per day, adjusting for your individual needs. Low-sugar electrolytes can also be incredibly helpful.
    • Fuel with Water-Rich Foods: You can also boost your skin's moisture from the inside out by adding water-rich foods to your meals—like dark leafy greens, cucumbers, and melons. Fruits and vegetables provide natural minerals and “structured water,” which your body absorbs much deeper into the cellular level than plain water alone.
    • Avoid Alcohol: To ensure those hairs slide out easily, please minimize or avoid alcohol for 24 to 48 hours before your visit. Alcohol heavily dehydrates your deep skin tissue, which makes the hairs significantly more difficult to release and will increase your sensitivity during the session.

Tip: Sip water consistently throughout the day rather than drinking a large amount all at once.

  • Skip the Stimulants

Please avoid caffeine (like coffee and energy drinks) as well as high-sugar items (like chocolate, sweet snacks, or sugary drinks) on the day of your session. These stimulants heighten your nervous system, which can temporarily increase your skin's sensitivity and make the treatment feel less comfortable. Feel free to indulge in whatever you want the moment your session is over!

If you are a daily coffee drinker, you may be more comfortable having 1 cup several hours before your session rather than suddenly stopping and developing a caffeine headache. The goal is simply to avoid anything that may unnecessarily increase your sensitivity before treatment.

  • Avoid Tweezing, Waxing & Threading

Do not tweeze, wax, thread, epilate, or otherwise remove the hair from the root between electrolysis appointments.

Electrolysis needs the hair to be present in the follicle so the electrologist can treat it. Removing the hair from the root makes it temporarily unavailable for treatment and can interfere with your progress.

Shaving or carefully trimming is the recommended method between appointments. Before your appointment, allow enough growth for the hair to be gently grasped with tweezers. For many people, approximately 2–3 days of growth is enough, although this will depend on how quickly your hair grows and the area being treated.

  • Cycle-Sync Your Sessions

You may find that your skin is more sensitive right before or during your menstrual cycle. For a more comfortable experience, you may want to avoid booking appointments during this window.

  • Prepare Your Skin

To ensure the highest level of hygiene and efficiency, please arrive with your target area clean. Heavy cosmetics create a structural barrier that can clog your pores. If your skin feels dry, skip the heavy creams and use a light, non-comedogenic option like our Hydrating Moisturizer to keep your skin plump without clogging your pores.

    • Facial Areas: Should be entirely makeup-free.
    • Underarm Areas: Should be free of deodorant.
  • Protect Your Skin

Keep the area being treated out of the sun for 48 hours before and after your session. Sun exposure can leave the skin irritated or highly sensitive, which delays your healing time and risks post-treatment pigmentation.

  • Limit Strenuous Activity

Try not to arrive overheated, flushed, or sweaty from an intense workout. Strenuous activity quickly drains the deep water and electrolyte reserves in your skin that we rely on for a smooth hair release. For optimal results and maximum comfort, give yourself time to cool down, rehydrate, and relax before your session.
